Dialogue for Democracy

Relational leaders have the responsibility to promote and lead dialogue especially when our communities and nations are so divided and three years of Covid isolation has significantly reduced the amount and quality of communication and talk between us. Without dialogue, democracy withers. Relational leaders feel a call to bring us all back to democratic engagement through dialogue. How do we get back to that democratic discussion that is so essential?

Dialogue for Democracy explores these ideas by attempting to answer 6 foundational questions, both through discussion and with discussion activities.

  1. Why is dialogue valuable?
  2. What are some of the conditions for good dialogue?
  3. What are some good ways to get the dialogue started?
  4. What are some good ways to keep dialogue going?
  5. How can we deepen dialogue?
  6. How can we connect dialogue to action?

We think this little book could be quite useful to people who are engaged in discussions about dialogue and eager to try out different strategies and methods with their team or school.

Leading & Creating Powerful Learning Relationships

A Whole School Community Approach

Our framework provides an understanding of what it means to be an effective school, and citizen, in the 21st century. Every student needs to be creative, literate, numerate, collaborative, culturally competent, socially just, technologically savvy, emotionally and environmentally aware. Without the key stakeholders coming together, we cannot support the development of such global citizens. Take a peek at our table of contents below:

  1. Chapter 1: Schools and Communities Working Together
  2. Chapter 2: The Framework
  3. Chapter 3: Parent Connectedness
  4. Chapter 4: Personalising Curriculum
  5. Chapter 5: Community-Based Learning
  6. Chapter 6: Community Links
  7. Chapter 7: Leadership Implications

We are not proposing a system change, but we do believe the directions laid out in our framework
represent a better way for leaders to serve the school and community. Our framework acknowledges
that building the right relationships is the foundation of all learning. Through partnering – be it student to-student, teacher-to-student, school-to-family or school-to-community – we can build an effective community organisation where learning is a collaborative activity
